From the folks behind Super Jersey Comics Expo, Super Jersey Summer Spectacular arrived at the Iron Peak Sports & Events in Hillsborough, NJ this past Saturday.
More modest in scale than its Comics Expo sibling, the Summer Spectacular occupied about half the floor space and ran for a single day. In contrast to the comics-focused Super Jersey Expo, the Summer Spectacular is positioned as a broader pop culture expo, with comics creators sharing space with other media personalities.
The highlight of the latter was the reunion of the entire cast of Kevin Smith’s Mallrats available for autographs and photo ops, including Smith, Jay Mewes, Jason Lee, Brian O’Halloran, Ethan Suplee, Jeremy London, Joey Lauren Adams, Priscilla Barnes, and Renee Humphrey.
On the comics side, the event was headlined by John Romita Jr. along with Scott Hanna, Rags Morales, Alex Segura, Bob Budiansky, and others.
In addition to comics guests, an Artist Alley included more comics writers and artists and the show floor included vendors of comic books and other pop culture items.
