April brings showers, flowers, and long hours at fan fests as comic con season begins. While fans await the imminent arrival of the San Diego Comic-Con hotel lottery (otherwise known as hotelpocalypse), a number of regional events arrive to spark the enthusiasm of pop culture fans.
This past Saturday, Lehigh Valley Comic Convention returned to Allentown, PA. Moving from their previous venue at Lehigh Carbon Community College to the more spacious Allentown Fairgrounds Agri-Plex, the spring event featured a larger array of vendors.
Comic book vendors were particularly in evidence, largely displaying back issues of single comics (rather than recent trade editions). Other varieties of collectibles and pop culture souvenirs were equally plentiful.
While there were no programming sessions at the festival, featured guests, both comics creators and other celebrities, were available for conversations and autographs at tables on the show floor.
The handful of celebrities included wrestler Andrew Anderson and Knight Rider actress Rebecca Holden. The majority of featured guests were comics creators, including local favorites Jim Balent and Holly Golightly, Bob Budiansky, Lee Weeks, Scott Hanna, Rick Leonardi, Bob McLeod, Richard and Wendy Pini, and many others.
And it wouldn’t be a con without cosplay. Fans in costumes roamed the show floor and posed for photos.
