Comics conventions come in all sizes, from the extensive scale of Comic Con International’s San Diego Comic-Con and ReedPop’s New York Comic Con to small, intimate events at local libraries and comics shops. In between is a vast assortment of modestly-sized fan fests around the nation.
In that middle space is NJ Comics Stop’s One Day Comic Expo, which returned to the Cherry Hill, NJ, Holiday Inn for a second year this past Sunday. As the name implies, it’s a single day event and was held in a single 4600-square-foot room in the hotel.
The event was headlined by a half dozen comics creators: artist and writer Al Milgrom, artist Rudy Nebres, writer Chris Condon, writer Carmen Costa, artist Ben Harvey, and artist Don Aguillo.
The remainder of the Holiday Inn’s Empress Garden Ballroom was filled with vendor booths. In contrast to many pop culture events, One Day Comic Expo offered only comics and magazines — no vendors with pop culture trinkets, tchotchkes, and related collectibles.
Jersey’s One Day Comic Expo provided an unassuming comics-focused experience.
